I've noticed that as of last update the mad scientist buffs himself too. Today's daily he buffed himself to 9 str before doing anyone else, and I only managed to kill 1 of the 3 stack before dying.
Is this an intentional change? It really seems to up the challenge curve, a bit like the slime guys but without the out that you can play them to reverse the damage.
